About the book

Dracula by Bram Stoker was first published in 1897. In Passage you read the full text in the original English, marked intermediate and filed under horror.

A castle without mirrors. A host who never eats. And a guest who slowly realises he cannot leave.

Jonathan Harker, a young English solicitor, travels to Transylvania to help a nobleman buy a house near London. The villagers cross themselves when they hear where he is going, and Count Dracula's old-world courtesy soon hardens into something colder: locked doors, letters written to order, and a figure seen crawling face-down along the castle wall.

Back in England, Jonathan's fiancée Mina and her friend Lucy Westenra are drawn into strange events of their own, and Dr. John Seward sends for his old teacher, Professor Van Helsing. Told entirely through diaries, letters, telegrams and newspaper cuttings, the story lets readers piece the horror together a step ahead of the characters.

Published in 1897, Dracula created the vampire as we know him and has haunted stage and screen ever since.

Reading Dracula in Passage

Passage sets the book as a quiet, paginated reader in English. Read at your own pace, and when a sentence stops you, tap it. You get:

  • a natural translation of that exact sentence,
  • a short note on the grammar, in plain words,
  • the key words, which you can save with the sentence they came from,
  • all of it in English, Spanish, French, German, Italian, Turkish or Portuguese, whichever you read best.

It's marked intermediate: comfortable once everyday English feels familiar, with the harder sentences one tap away. The words you save come back later in short review games, so the book keeps teaching after you close it.
