About the book

The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes by Arthur Conan Doyle was first published in 1892. In Passage you read the full text in the original English, marked intermediate and filed under mystery and crime.

Twelve baffling cases. One detective who notices everything.

At 221B Baker Street, Sherlock Holmes takes on the puzzles that leave Scotland Yard stumped, while his friend Dr. Watson tells the story. In "A Scandal in Bohemia", a king in disguise begs Holmes to recover a dangerous photograph, and Holmes meets his match in Irene Adler. In "The Red-Headed League", a pawnbroker is paid handsomely to copy out the encyclopaedia simply because of his flaming red hair. And in "The Speckled Band", a frightened young woman hears a low whistle in the night, just as her sister did shortly before she died.

The stories are short, quick and clever, full of fog, gaslight, eccentric clients and the tiny details only Holmes sees: a frayed cuff, a splash of mud, a worn shoe.

First published in The Strand Magazine and collected in 1892, these are the adventures that made Sherlock Holmes the most famous detective in the world.

Reading The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes in Passage

Passage sets the book as a quiet, paginated reader in English. Read at your own pace, and when a sentence stops you, tap it. You get:

  • a natural translation of that exact sentence,
  • a short note on the grammar, in plain words,
  • the key words, which you can save with the sentence they came from,
  • all of it in English, Spanish, French, German, Italian, Turkish or Portuguese, whichever you read best.

It's marked intermediate: comfortable once everyday English feels familiar, with the harder sentences one tap away. The words you save come back later in short review games, so the book keeps teaching after you close it.
