About the book
De terugkeer van Sherlock Holmes by Arthur Conan Doyle was first published in 1905. In Passage you read the full text in Dutch, marked intermediate and filed under mystery and crime.
Nine cases, one fateful farewell, and a homecoming to Baker Street.
This Dutch edition brings together two sets of Sherlock Holmes stories, told as always by Dr. Watson. It opens with a knock at Watson's door near midnight: Holmes needs a bed for the night and a companion for a trip to Aldershot, where Colonel Barclay has been found dead in a locked room. Then come a cardboard box holding two severed ears, a stockbroker's clerk offered a suspiciously generous new job, a stolen naval treaty, and Holmes's showdown with Professor Moriarty.
The second half, The Return of Sherlock Holmes, finds the detective back at work: a duke's son vanishes from a boarding school in the north of England, a brutal sea captain known as Black Peter is found pinned to the wall by a harpoon, a blackmailer preys on London society, and someone is smashing plaster busts of Napoleon.
Sharp, quick and endlessly reread, these are the stories that made Holmes the model for every fictional detective since.

Reading De terugkeer van Sherlock Holmes in Passage
Passage sets the book as a quiet, paginated reader in Dutch. Read at your own pace, and when a sentence stops you, tap it. You get:
- a natural translation of that exact sentence,
- a short note on the grammar, in plain words,
- the key words, which you can save with the sentence they came from,
- all of it in English, Spanish, French, German, Italian, Turkish or Portuguese, whichever you read best.
It's marked intermediate: comfortable once everyday Dutch feels familiar, with the harder sentences one tap away. The words you save come back later in short review games, so the book keeps teaching after you close it.
