About the book

I tre moschettieri, vol. I by Alexandre Dumas was first published in 1844. In Passage you read the full text in Italian, marked intermediate and filed under historical fiction.

He rides into Paris on a yellow nag. Within hours he has three duels to fight.

April 1625. Eighteen-year-old d'Artagnan leaves Gascony with fifteen crowns, his father's blessing and a letter of introduction to Monsieur de Tréville, captain of the King's Musketeers. A haughty stranger at Meung insults him and steals the letter, and once in Paris, the hot-headed young man manages to offend Athos, Porthos and Aramis in quick succession, agreeing to fight each of them that same day.

The duels never take place. When the Cardinal's guards interrupt, d'Artagnan draws his sword beside the three musketeers, and a lifelong friendship is born. Soon he is lodging with the anxious mercer Bonacieux, falling for the mercer's pretty young wife, and drawn into a dangerous secret binding Queen Anne to the Duke of Buckingham, while Cardinal Richelieu watches every move.

This first volume, in a classic nineteenth-century Italian translation, covers the opening sixteen chapters of The Three Musketeers, Alexandre Dumas's swashbuckling masterpiece.

It's marked intermediate: comfortable once everyday Italian feels familiar, with the harder sentences one tap away. The words you save come back later in short review games, so the book keeps teaching after you close it.
