About the book
La casa del poeta by Grazia Deledda was first published in 1930. In Passage you read the full text in the original Italian, marked beginner and filed under historical fiction and romance. It runs to about 52,500 words.
A blind man's secret journey. An old jailer and his eagle. A year told in flowers.
In this late collection, Grazia Deledda moves between her native Sardinia and the Rome where she made her home: village kitchens and seaside villas, salt pans and new suburbs spreading into the fields. Some pieces are full stories, others brief, smiling sketches of the people and creatures around her.
In "The Vanished Fiancé" a young woman proudly shows her handsome fiancé around her family's new home. In "The Blind Man of Jericho" a Sardinian nobleman who fears he is going blind slips away from his village without a word to friends or enemies. In "The Eagle" old Elia, once a jailer, stays on as caretaker of an empty mountain fortress, feeding the eagle that is his only companion.
Published in 1930, four years after Deledda's Nobel Prize, The Poet's House is made of short, warm pieces that are quick to read and full of everyday Italian.

How it opens
Passage sets the book as a quiet, paginated reader in Italian. Read at your own pace, and when a sentence stops you, tap it. You get:
- a natural translation of that exact sentence,
- a short note on the grammar, in plain words,
- the key words, which you can save with the sentence they came from,
- all of it in English, Spanish, French, German, Italian, Turkish or Portuguese, whichever you read best.
It's marked beginner, so it's a good first whole book if you know the basics of Italian and want something you can finish. The words you save come back later in short review games, so the book keeps teaching after you close it.
