About the book
Miss Mole by E. H. Young was first published in 1930. In Passage you read the full text in the original English, marked intermediate and filed under historical fiction and romance.
She is plain, nearly forty and almost penniless. She is also the liveliest person in Radstowe.
Hannah Mole has spent years as a lady's companion to employers she mostly cannot stand. Back in Radstowe, the river city of her childhood, she is about to be dismissed by the gloomy Mrs. Widdows when a bit of quick thinking during a crisis at a stranger's house changes her luck. Soon she is housekeeper to the Reverend Robert Corder, a self-satisfied widowed minister, and his two very different daughters, anxious Ethel and watchful Ruth.
Hannah tells white lies as easily as she breathes, sees through everyone's pretensions, including those of her respectable cousin Lilla, and finds small miracles in the dullest days. But a woman with her history has to tread carefully in a town where reputations matter so much.
Witty, warm and sharply observed, Miss Mole won the James Tait Black Memorial Prize in 1930.

Reading Miss Mole in Passage
Passage sets the book as a quiet, paginated reader in English. Read at your own pace, and when a sentence stops you, tap it. You get:
- a natural translation of that exact sentence,
- a short note on the grammar, in plain words,
- the key words, which you can save with the sentence they came from,
- all of it in English, Spanish, French, German, Italian, Turkish or Portuguese, whichever you read best.
It's marked intermediate: comfortable once everyday English feels familiar, with the harder sentences one tap away. The words you save come back later in short review games, so the book keeps teaching after you close it.
